Pete G,
Did the seller consider offering the finds to a museum for a similar amount of dosh? Or are museums reluctant to pay cash for finds? I'm sure you don't know the answer, but it begs the question when only £281 is involved with the nations prehistory. Sickening.
Regards,
TE.

Actualy I did ask if he had offered it to Devizes museum and he said he never thought of it but said museums had bought things from him in the past.
This episode reminds me of the photographer Dennis Grant King that worked with Keiller at Avebury.
His collection went to car boot sales in Devizes and we were able to recover some of it but the house clearance people said they threw out bin bags of paperwork as they didn't think they could sell it.
They did offer the NT a collection of finds that King had but the NT were not interested so they sold it privately.
