Ireland was the first country to be fully surveyed and the original 6" (1:10,000) to the mile maps are amazing.

I'd love a full set of the 6" or even the later crazy 25" to the mile (1:2500) maps of Ireland. Desperately out of date, but showing all the townland boundaries and every monument, wall, hedge and probably every cow at the time of survey!

You can get A0 copies of the 6" maps printed out ... but they cost around 3000 euro each! Finding them second hand is next to impossible. I have one 6" map of a bit of Dublin, which includes the names and addresses of everyone living in the area covered as well as the house value. Mental.

Wouldn't fancy driving from Dublin to Cork using the 25" maps :-)

we have all these in the place i work (Map Room Bodleian Library). they are lovely maps, but the first ed 1:2,500 maps of GB are better as they are in colour, and bloomin' lovely they are too.
