leap years

We all manage our lives in a practical way that means we cannot prove the reality of everything in it. We have to accept much on faith and we don't all have a degree in physics. I asked you for evidence on this one occasion because what you said was so unlikely. You side step the issue now by wittering on about beards. BSc?

Do you constantly (that word again) pick up on Kevin's absurdities to educate him or to ridicule him? This forum has much of the schoolroom about it. Any odd "new boy" is fair game.

"This forum has much of the schoolroom about it. Any odd "new boy" is fair game."

I really think that misrepresents how things are here. Several "characters" have been treated with kid gloves for a long time and people only got annoyed when they insisted they were absolutely definitely "right".

Seems fair enough to me. And why shouldn't scientific assertions be questioned, when they are patently based upon misreading and misunderstanding of scientific principles. You yourself recently got fed up with nonsense-mongers on the Portal. Is your attitude different here?

"we don't all have a degree in physics."

Do I detect a note of inverted snobbery?

"I asked you for evidence on this one occasion because what you said was so unlikely. You side step the issue now by wittering on about beards. BSc?"

I am not side-stepping the issue; I am telling you that I did not and do not intend to provide any evidence for calendar-based crop planting. Some other poster introduced that concept, I merely referred to it as a way of maintaining thread continuity and of illustrating that leap year correction would be irrelevant from a viewpoint that did not sub-divide the year into fixed units.

I don't know and I don't really care how they decided when to plant their crops, but unlike you, I am willing to entertain speculation about it.

"Do you constantly (that word again) pick up on Kevin's absurdities to educate him or to ridicule him? This forum has much of the schoolroom about it. Any odd "new boy" is fair game."

I don't "constantly" do anything other than maintain my essential body functions.

However, I have engaged with Kevin on many occasions and have put forward serious proposals to work with him in objective evaluation of his claims, but he has consistently (there's a better word for you) ignored them. If I do on occasion ridicule him it is because he makes ridiculous claims that are not presented as speculations, but as "truths", known only to him.

Now, I intend to take morfe's advice and disengage from this increasingly troll-like behaviour of yours. Incidentally morfe, the self-satisfied 'Ha!' was not lost on me, but I chose not to make an issue of it.

"Any odd "new boy" is fair game."

I'd like to see that statement backed up with some fact.

I've been visiting here since inception, seen all kinds come and go. True, I've seen people like Croley and Cropredy get roundly 'questioned' or 'poorly tolerated' (is that a word?) here but that's hardly surprising considering their insulting and patronizing manner. Such arsery boils down to:

"I know The Answer, you are all ignorant pretenders"

You know the type.

I honestly haven't seen much evidence (if any) of 'groupthink' here other than that minority who lump TMA contributors together as 'ignorant'. (See Mr Lizardman and his adherents)

They become 'outsiders' by their own hand, as they post at the very beginning from their self-appointed role of 'outsider', to 'educate' us ignorant masses whom they falsely believe to be a 'clique' just because many here don't concur with the odd patronisingly delivered theory of reptilian/alien//new-ager-on-a-cross stuff that get stated as fact, but wait, 'those' TMA'ers are, 'not ready for the truth' bla bla.

It's so dully predictable, it hurts. Everyone here is most gloriously an individual. Some are just more tolerant of patronising guff than others, and some, are less cogent of their own lack of communication skills. Or else they are trawling for shits and giggles.
