the westerly direction is something which puzzles me more than the northerly one and it is somehting i also found in germany.

The court tombs thing is funny I reckon, not suggesting anything but arent they dated slightly later than the wedge/portals?

Other way around. Portal tombs are thought by some to be derived from court tombs and in some cases you can see why. A few portal tombs do have small courts and some court tombs have tall door jambs. Until the Carrowmore dates were released the court tombs were believed to be the oldest of the Irish monuments.

Wedge tombs nearly all face west. Portal tombs nearly all face east.
