It says they believe they can understand God only by drinking the tea, not that they're the only people who can understand God.

Mind you, most people of strong religious conviction tend to think they have the correct recipe for talking to the gods/God, so it probably *is* a case of 'no tea = no genuine conversation with the almighty'.
