Threads? Do you really think that you are going to get anywhere with threads? Phase 2 is an integral part of the specific proposal that is addressed to the Highways Agency. See the bottom lines of Nigel's "thread" http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/forum/?thread=30258&message=375329

You can take anything from Phase 1 or 2 that you like and send it where you like EH, NT, PM, Greenpeace etc . My concern at this moment in time is with the specific proposal that is targetted at the Minister of Transport. To hit the target you must have a clear focus. The proposal to the Min of Trans has two phases and the second one addresses the A303. Strategy, strategy all is strategy or all is lost. The essential strategy in any campaign is to plan ahead and focus. You will never hit all targets with one badly aimed broadside of buckshot.

I'm sorry you don't see things the way they are developing on here Peter, best of luck with your efforts.

Peter. Speaking as someone who's favourite site is metres away from a landfill, causing the site to stink and get strewn with litter when the wind takes its fancy I have to say that I totally disagree with your notion that do nothing is the worst option.

Doing nothing will not destroy any more archaeology for the sake of development. The current issues with traffic noise dust etc. may be a concern to you now, but is not the threat of further loss of archaeology far more of a concern?

Stonehenge, as with Thornborough is filled with people looking to provide a "quick fix" to the problem. both of these are a direct result of development pressure and in no way are based on the thought of what is right for the monument.

Unless something is actually damaging the site, doing nothing cannot be seen as the worst option IMHO.
