What Am I?

>Can the term antiquarian ever be torn away from its image of landed gentry whizzing around the country ripping apart barrows?<

Course it can... just prefix antiquarian with 'modern' ;-)

So you reckon I can get away with "I'm a modern landscape antiquarian"?

I suppose what concerned me more than anything was the association of the term antiquarian with people selling nighthawked stuff on ebay.

Not for me - the modern antiquarians of TMA are too limited by period (for me) I would describe myself proudly as a landscape antiquarian. Like the antiquarians of old, I am interested in history as well as pre-history, I acknowledge no time limits or national boundaries. Unlike the old time antiquarians, I am not a wealthy landowner, treasure seeker or tomb robber. I am certainly not an amateaur archaeologist - I have never dug anything other than my garden.
