Bitton church is fascinating with a 95ft long aisleless Anglo-Saxon nave thought to have originally been even longer. Fragments of carved rood survive. Roman road Via Julia passed through Bitton. Will shut up now or someone will moan about being off timeline.

Bitton church is noticeably huge isn't it. It's nice to think there'd be a Romano-British water thing going on in the area. I wonder what the rev found (did you read his book directly?)?

I'm glad you found lots of interesting stuff, Moss. (I keep meaning to get to the library but there are so many other things I'm supposed to be doing when it's actually open.)

Phil Whatsisname's book on holy wells and springs of the area has loads of stuff round Pucklechurch. There's St Aldham's spring for starters. And St Anne's well at Siston. Suppose it all drains into the Boyd which goes past Bitton church and barrow.
