I found a great little book in Oxfam Bookshop for 50p entitled "The North Coast of Cornwall" by Rev H Hugh Breton!

Not sure when it was written, but it looks to be around 1926, and I believe the author also wrote a series of books about Dartmoor (he was the vicar of Sheepstor at some stage before he became the vicar of Morwenstow) called "Beautiful Dartmoor".

This particular book is a journey from Welcombe Mouth in Devon, to St Ives, and features many interesting places - mostly churches, unsurprisingly - including some megalithic sites (including "Pawton Cromlech", "Great Menhir" and "Fallen Cromlech" which are Pawton Quoit, Men Gurta and St Breock Beacon Kistvaen) and holy wells (such as Jesus Well, St Agnes Well and Holywell Bay).

I would love to find more of this series - any ideas where I might get them from? I've had a search on t'internet and drawn a blank... There's no ISBN number or owt...

Cheers!

Hi, Goff,

Thought you might find this link interesting:

http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Dartmoor/#Description

- it gives a bit more of the Rev's output. You could always navigate your way down here via SHB's. There's a good site here:

http://www.inprint.co.uk/thebookguide/index.shtml

with plenty of stops along the way: many close to decent pubs! (although I'm not sure about the bit West of the Tamar).

Peace
