It's a pity we couldn't plug Richard Dawkins into James Lovelock to produce The Blind Watchmaker's Gaia. I'd like the webcammers, at Maeshowe, to put a cardboard cutout of a small carved stone into the niche in the back wall of the monument. It would be illuminated at this time of the year, possibly re-enacting the past, but would also be a partial replay of the original pagan rites. (Shock - horror - I don't think it's going to happen).

But wasn't god replaced by Coronation Street about 1975 ?

Any idiot who wants to rely on the idea that "kindness and generosity are innate in human beings, as they are in other social animals" loses my vote right there. Where do people GET these ideas? Surely not from having to actually deal with young human beings.
