Sweeping maybe, but is it false when considering modern western culture?
Do any surviving folk festivals have real meaning? Are they not faked? Well dressing? Christmas nativity plays? Egg rolling? Does anyone sincerely and genuinly believe in them? Harvest festivals - possibly.
