Ishmael,
I appreciate your posts, as you obviously know the archaeology of the area well.
>The climate is still a matter for debate.
True, but the thoughts, from the evidence of the flora is for a warmer climate than today, so I believe. Not conclusive, I know.
>Bury your dead at Stonehenge (ashes scattered in the wind) walk the avenue to the river boat and nip up to Durrington travel lodge for a McPigRoast?
True, but that would lend reason to the midsummer sunrise theory, but not in midwinter. In my mind it's the midwinter feasting evidence that is crucial. And is it not too much of a coincidence that the Avenue leads into Stonehenge towards the SW? Just a thought.
The joy of archaeology, to me, is the perpetual changing of ideas, as archaeology is uncovered, and the arguments that ensue. I think we learn more from arguing (not trolling), than we do by simply reading texts. No one is right, and no one is wrong, but we are all open to ideas that change out way of thinking.
Cheers,
TE.
As for the a route between Durrington and Stonehenge there is no obvious route overland.
The Durrington to Stonehenge by river route is only if you are going to use the Avenues in one direction.
Why not the other way around?
