winter solstice

Hi Olly!

Although I aint done it for a few years now - in the days before the megalith craze really took-off and the Stonehenge festival was stopped, old locals at certain megalithic sites used to turn up mainly for the sunrise.

thanks for these comments. Given that the legnth of a year is mechanically defined in our times and the passage of time would have been less defined in the past, several sunrises and sunsets could have encompassed the winter solstice period. Megalithic site were obviously a focus for seasonal shifts. The advent of megalith building could be interpreted as the birth of time within a set mechanical format. The seasons set in stone. Or something like that.
