Orion Rising

Keeping an eye out for Orion appearing in the east would be a good warning of the coming of winter and the 'death and rebirth' of the sun. I don't know anything about Orion - any myth/lore point to Orion being a bringer of doom or death?

I always see Orion as an end of the summer sort of thing. He appears in the eastern skies from around September onwards. When you see the Pleiades you know Orion will be chasing after them.

Orion was a giant hunter and one of Poseidon's unruly sons. He could walk on the sea bed with his head above the waves. Like his one-eyed brother, Polyphemus, Orion was blinded in a fight, but his eyes were healed by the sun god, Helios. Eos, the goddess of the dawn loved him so much that the other gods were jealous. They persuaded Artemis to shoot him with an arrow and after his death he was raised to the stars .
