Not an anecdote… but the papers by Jeremy Dronfield may interest you, regarding shapes (entoptics and subjective visual experiences; cf. most stuff by Paul Bahn) and cognitive approaches to archaeology.
Hi Buck
All the entoptics 'n' stuff aint Paul Bahn. He's very much against the ideas - but then he aint done psychedelics. Mind you, saying that, I've done buckets of them thru the years and, in line with Prof Thomas Dowson (who did some of the early works with Lewis-Wiiliams), don't buy the idea that it gets to the heart of explaining much of our cup-and-ring art. Cos it doesn't!
