It's impossible to tell boat construction from rock art - but - the carvings look ok filled in with ochre paint - and - both northern and southern boats were clearly depicted with a steering oar, always starboard rear. I'm currently sitting on a twenty eight thousand tonne vessel rolling around within sight of the Norwegian coast.
We had a big storm blow through last night and although the storm has blown over, it's bloody freezing and there's a two to three meter swell running.
I was stood today looking at the sea thinking that them fellas must've had some bottle to sail these seas.
Maybe it was on a day like this that one of them thought , bugger this skin & sapling malarky, I'm gonna get me some wood and build a proper boat.
