I have absolutely no idea why dowsers can pick up straight lines, but many, if not most, do.

I saw a documentary years ago about Hamish Miller and Paul Broadhurst and how they tracked the Michael and Mary lines. Paul is the author and Hamish the dowser. Hamish is a blacksmith and dowses with only one home-forged rod, at one point he was driving, dowsing with his right hand and using his left to steer and change gear, not a recommended tactic, even off-road! They followed the lines in their spare time over many weekends, starting just before the place they left off the weekend before so Hamish could track the lines again and progress.

Mine too, indoors and out. I have a rather fetching small tight spiral in the lounge and the family refuse to let me dig up the floor to see if there's anything there ;-)

Only the person who detects them. I'm not sure how many people have the time or the inclination to duplicate Hamish's dowsing results, not me, for sure. I was fascinated by the story of the weird carving on the font at Lostwithiel church somehow deflecting the line at right angles so once when in that part of Cornwall, I did visit and did to my surprise I did replicate his results. Having said that, I only did it for 10 or so yards either side of the font, so it's hardly a valediction of his work in its entirety.

Dowsing's the easy bit, it's the interpretation where most people come unstuck!

Interpretation, belief, the ability to switch onto and lock onto the desired object, the hunter.
How does a tennis player like Mcenroe have the eye to hand ability, that he has ?
Why do some people develop great wordsmith ability, why do great artists have the ability to paint to almost picture like quality.
I could go on and on, we all develop abilities to differing levels.
I can dowse, oh can I dowse. so can many others, most though havent been able to communicate what they find, instead they have shown by way of carving, painting, as well as they could show such a complicated non visable occurance.
They have weaved into whatever myth and religion their interpretation of what is the most complex, and yet stunningly simple system of straight lines, that create geometric patterns that are breath taking, that allow an energy to flow along in an continuous snake like way, spirraling from circle to circle, always flaring out in a cross formation, feeding the connecting circles , all the circles creating more circles, small ones big ones, a never ending array of the most stunning geometric patterns ever imaginable,
Diving into the ground down quartz and similar veins, reamerging up through water dense areas. totally awesome, has nearly driven me mad, nearly.
But I have the little dragon by the tail, it keeps slipping away, but I have a good hold of it now, now that I relly believe in it, it is our best friend , it is........ well you work it out ,I have.
