You also sometimes see cup-like marks on big blocks of medeival sandstone that are suposed to be where the stones were gripped during moving. Newcastle city walls are covered in them. They're really quite close to the genuine I-am.
The tongs that gripped the stones, on the end of the rope from the crane, is called a Lewis. (Exclaimed as Inspector Morse used to). Victorian railway bridges are useful places to find plenty of them.
