> prehistoric boundary markers (as oppossed to standing stones)

what's the difference between prehistoric boundary markers and standing stones? (sounds like a joke!)

do we know what function standing stones had? could they not have been boundary markers?

Cheers
Andy

Standing stones *could* have been boundary markers. It's open to debate. Standing stones are either standing, or were once standing.

A boundary marker can in theory be simply a boulder, either placed artificially or already in situ. In the case of the stones I saw, they weren't earth-fast.
