aye Peter, it'll surely open up all avenues of debate from the various ancient carvings in S & C America that look to have beards, to the Aztec belief that someone resembling Dave Lee Travis would come & wipe them out. It never ceases to amaze me how much human nature makes us distort things, or not want to understand something if it doesn't fit with tradition or beliefs.

Yes, but the trouble has always been that the Atlantis believers and Von Danikens make the subject taboo to any archaeologist with a reputation to defend. Leaving aside all the spacemen stuff - just take a look at the carved Toltec heads - they have to be negroid. The bearded heads elsewhere are typically caucasian and American Indian just can't grow full or pointed beards. (Hope nobody takes exception to these racial terms, but I don't know what the preferred politcally correct terms are - sorry)

There is evidence for prehistoric trans-Atlantic travel and perhaps it might begin to be studied honestly instead of being denied.
