Yes, I think that just about sums up my own concerns about the book as well Rhiannon. You read through it thinking, "mmm... that's interesting." but know you're going to have to check out what the author is saying elsewhere.

Perhaps the value of books like this is that they do get you thinking and so personally I wouldn't dismiss it completely.

No you're probably right. They do get you thinking. Though... it's when they <i>don't</i> get people thinking and they uncritically repeat what they've read as Fact somewhere else. Still that's folklore (and urban folklore) for you so I shouldn't complain, I should be interested.
