If I found what I believed to be an unrecorded BA barrow, the last thing I would do would be to get my spade out. I've participated in digs with archeos and amateur groups, I've even got my own geophys but I'm not an expert and a feature of such potential age and poor preservation deserves expert attention. There is a major difference between uncovering and excavation.
