However, I'd have liked to know about the stone tools that were found with the Hobbits. No-one said if the tools were normal sized or not.

I'd have expected the tools to be proportionately smaller if they were being used by a race of little people.

Agreed, but were these "hobbits" any smaller than modern Congolese pygmies? Small stature of isolated modern humans is not at all unknown - there must be specific skeletal differences to make them a different species - stature alone cannot be any kind of proof.
