Lichens may not have much of a smell, but have you ever considered how old they are? There are all sorts from the hanging kinds on trees in wet Welsh valleys to the crusty orange types that grow barely a fraction of millimetre a year on ancient stones. I love 'em.

"have you ever considered how old they are"

All the time sirrah! They creep at 0.000000000000003 mph! Also the epiphytic bryophytes in places like Wistman's Wood, Devon, a prehistoric remnant of a great forest, and a peep back through ancestral eyes. It's a wild place.

Gah, wish I was there during these thunderstorms!
