There are roughly 400 recorded panels within a fairly smallish area from Kirkcudbright to wigtownshire. It is an area where almost all of the carvings are on outcrops of rock, as you know from your little trips this way Hob man, need to get you back over this way to help, i mean only me and rocknicker to look after the whole area...cool eh.
Did you know that all but 2 of the carvings in Galloway are within 12km of a place where copper was once mined, or within 1.5km of a place where gold was panned for, possible reason for RA?...a sign post towards mining for certain types of metals?
Did i tell you i bought a book by Professor A Thom, he had a close-ish working relationship with R Morris, Morris uses data from Thom in his book on some of the RA, (right angle triangles and megalithic inch)...The Thom book i got is about the ancient British landscape and all the mathematical equations etc...
