Hi David, I know Cerne Abbas really well, just 5 miles up the road. I read somewhere that the earliest mention of the giant was only some 300 years back. I am aware of a large stone once positioned at the junction in the middle of the village. The stone was cut by the Christians into a cross, later decapitated and finally moved to where it now stands up the road in the grave yard. The same grave yard is home to 1000 year old Yew and a spring renowned for it's magical water. At the top of the giant's hill is a small earth works, a small henge I would guess, I'm no expert on these things. The Red Lion Pub sits across from where the Stone once sat. Dowsers maintain that this is a hive of Ley Line activity and many spooky experience has gone on in the pub. A close friend of mine is especially sensetive to Earth Energies and has loads of stories to tell. Great place, great atmosphere and a great vibe.
