Megalithic Poems

Well I like the original word, the spoken poem reads much better with churchward then churchyard...
Well, you might be right moss. But is there such a word as 'churchward' (meaning towards the church?). Dunno, as you say there is the word 'church-ward' meaning a custodian of a church. The poem certainly is a bit of mystery (on several levels) and needs someone with the right background to sort it out.

Yes, I've found churchward said to be an adjective meaning towards the church although I can't find anyone but Emmie using it. Even if it didn't exist she might have used it as a classic example of poetic license I suppose. Grays Elegy uses churchway-path and that appears elsewhere but probably meaning something more specific, a church path or a burial path.

I'm fascinated to know what she meant by churchward as it could be that she reckoned the ashes were deposited to the north of Silbury on the way to Avebury. Why would she have that idea?
