I think I will shell out on the car - not worth it otherwise methinks. Plan so far is to travel up eg on a Thursday a.m. to Inverness, do some work stuff there and travel to Ullapool, get ferry in morning do appt in pm. and stay over for Saturday, come back sat lunch. Won't be much time. Put like that (ie about 3-4 appointments) I don't know if she'll shell out... I will put it to her, after all it was her idea!

The only island I've 'hopped' to is Arran - and that was a much shorter, sheltered boat trip. Just looked at the map - a bit flipping different!
