I presume you've got a copy of TMA? If not, buy one when you get here, get a good road map covering just S England, get a Bed and Breakfast every night perhaps 50miles further into your tour (you'll be out of season so plenty available), get off the main roads and get lost every day in a 20 or 30 mile radius and try all the local beers!
