can't agree more with most of that, but, in answer to one of your doubts, I would add that the appearance of odin in scando-germanic culture might go back to the earlier 'northern' peoples, and I mean, the original nordic natives (finns and the like) due to its shamanic character, as suggested by indoeuropean research (eg Reinhard Schmoeckel); that's why there are so many incongruencies, because the indoeuropean gods were superimposed on the earlier neolithic pantheons
