A lot of our site listings have Access ratings. We use a very similar scale to Stone Pages.

· Access Rating

5 - Can be driven to. Full access for the disabled / sites such as barrows that can be seen from the road and are best viewed from a distance anyway.

4 - Accessed by a short walk on a footpath

3 - on a footpath but requiring a bit more of a walk

2 - On private land where permission should be sought to visit

1 - In the middle of nowhere, not on a footpath and a nightmare to find.

0 - no data

"1 - In the middle of nowhere, not on a footpath and a nightmare to find."

That would be most of Ireland then ....

Hi Andy
My opinion FWIW:
These are a great start, but it doesn't take into account gates, ground condition, terrain, steepness, etc etc.
How many sites are 5's, just out of interest? Which are they ? I think it would be interesting to see these listed here. The 2-4's would maybe need more detail.
As someone already said, it depends on the individual and the more detail the better!

And how many are rated 0?

;-)

.o0O0o.

The ratings system has been under construction for over a year, but the new Access feature is now up and running on the Megalithic Portal. Look for the new filters at the top of the map pages, so you can select just the easier sites to get to. Many sites also have 1-5 scores for Condition, and more controversially, Ambience. In our system, 0 means 'not rated yet' and -1 for a destroyed site.

They might be idiosyncratic, but I thought being compatible with the Stone Pages rating system was a good idea. If you disagree with the scores, leave your own.

A few other new features since moving server too. Come and see.
Cheers,
Andy
