I've heard of that book, I'll find out more, thanks!

For me, you can't beat Fraser's Golden Bough. It's the bible of ancient belief. A great compilation written last century on pre-literate societies including what remains in our own cultures.

I thought the Golden Bough had been largely discredited, as his personal fantasy rather than based on sound research?

I'll see what I can find.

I love the Golden Bough, Annexus. The Stations of the Sun is similarly an excellent compendium of lore. Frazer & Hutton are in complete opposition, though (Hutton spends a lot of his time trying to prove Frazer wrong). They're like a cosmic polarity: visionary vs. skeptic is what I'm tempted to name it but I think that's probably a little simplistic...

... had a bull-roarer fixation! Pervy fecker!

Try and get hold of "Tara. A Pagan Sanctuary In Ireland" by R.A.S. McAllister ... very influenced by The Golden Bough (and consequently crap!)
