A couple of months ago Summer Garland and I stayed at the George & Pilgrims Hotel in Glastonbury. We loved the hotel, (beautiful architecture, groovy old windows, full english breakfast, Director’s beer and ghosts. What more do you want from a B&B?) . . we were also intrigued to find out how old it was, (it was founded in the early 15th century).
On page 211 of TMA, there is a Stukeley print of Glastonbury circa 1730’s. In the foreground is a very old gothic looking building. .
Is this the George & Pilgrims? I wonder if Stukeley stayed there?
Also, legend has it that there was once a stone circle atop the Tor, although there is said to be no proof of this at all. I wonder where the legend originated? Summer Garland is reading the ‘Mists Of Avalon’ at the moment, and says the stone circle is mentioned there also.
