Gwenhyfar’s chair, the local rock god which all can see.
Eric’s fainted body shows the scale of the biggest cairn hereabouts.
Inbetween the cairn and the trees are two cists, one obvious the other not, and just beyond the trees is the Haughton Common stone circle.
The three cairns with Kings crag rising beyond.
Cairns and a rock god, but what is this? anyone know?
From just above the cairns, there are plenty of different kinds of sites here, all with a view of this, Gwenhyfar’s chair, the local rock god.
Queens crag in the distance, Gwenhyfar’s chair is visible if you can zoom in, but you can’t, so, take my word for it, and Hob’s.
To be honest the fort is quite complicated and I’ve no idea where this is, at a guess it’s an eastern entrance to the western fortlet. I call them fortlets because the map says there are forts here, in the plural. Two forts right next to each other both hemmed in by a big bank and ditch.
The north rampart of the eastern fortlet.
This is where the two fortlets meet on the edge. Have a look on google earth and all will be explained.
I need to get back and find all the other rock art and dig this out.
Old Bewick 1a. I saw these first, a bit underwhelmed.
Then I saw these and was more impressed, why did they do them in a straight line? Blawearie cairn just right of boulder.
