The ‘Monument to Antiquity’ being observed from one of a number of buried stones in the area.
On this fine February day... we, the intrepid explorers with everything bar compass, found out how that Grand old Duke of York must have felt. Having followed various directions, we found ourselves marching all the way up to the top of the hill before finding our goal, and yes, you guessed it, we had to march back down again!

On the approach from Avebury via the fields...
Having got to this place, and gazed upon the stones set in their surrounding hills.. one could feel an eerie atmosphere filling the place- a whirl and rush of energy reaching across the mists of time. Not unpleasant at all but rather calming yet exhiliarating in its tranquility... The only other time I have felt anything like this was when visiting the lowest point of land on the planet at the Dead Sea... and boy, did that make my ears pop!
