Silbury from Waden Hill, West Kennett and (just!) East Kennett Long Barrows in background
Avebury & West Kennett Avenue from Waden Hill
In the absence of a tree I could climb this is the nearest I could get to an aerial view – from the stile....
There’s a stone in the foreground on the edge of the shadow, one by the tussock on the right, one slightly left of centre a bit further away, (mayb e another one slightly further left!) and you should be able to se the one on the far left!!!
It’s worth seeing, honest!!
The remains of the circle from the east(ish)
This is one of the smaller stones (see keys)!
Keys for scale – these are seriously big stones! But most are half buried, most almost ‘flush’ with the ground
Can hardly see my car keys on stone (for scale!!!)
The barely historic White Horse on the prehistoric hill....
Earthworks and possible bell barrow (left) from top of bowl barrow at east of Windmill Hill, looking west
Windmill Hill from the foot of Waden Hill – barrows & earthworks visible on horizon
Is this a bell barrow or a bowl barrow...? Bowl I reckon. Cherhill on left horizon.
Silbury Hill and Avebury (in trees) from Windmill Hill.
Entrance with famous ammonite on bottom of left upright. We couldn’t see it when we were there – too close!!!
The bizarre shell filled rock that much of the barrow is constructed from – ammonites are just the half of it!
The NE Circle looking SEish
NE Circle & Avenues
NE Circle stones with John for scale....
The NE circle with Avenues. The Avenues make it look a bit of a mess, they’re so ruined.
