The view as you approach. North west chamber just visible
The long barrow...all that remains. Surprisingly you can see it through the rain!!
Approaching Hetty’s Tump – blimey it was horrid weather!!!
Hetty’s Tump from the side – in the ‘sightly damp’....
‘Twas difficult to get in without paddling knees in a puddle....
This one may be a collapsed dolmen. Not convinced myself but couldn’t get closer so I took this with a big lens.
The Andle Stone approached from Doll Tor stone circle
One of the beautiful views from Robin Hood’s Stride
Robin’s Stride with Ginger John striding....
The circle is obvious when you’re there... Ginger John stands on a stone that despite massive amounts of trampling, still won’t peek over the grass. Can you get battery powered strimmers?
Unless picking out the largest stone the circle is VERY difficult to photograph...
You could actually see the mist advancing across the moor.... Annoying, as there are loads of other things out there, but getting lost was just too risky
Far right is Megan, the woman to blame for my interest in stones. She’s going to talk to the cows....
The main row (to the left of this one) goes for ‘miles’ & even when it seems to peter out, you can often find the stones under the turf.... It is traceable just about all the way to those woods & curves left if memory serves, to head towards Scorhill stone circle which is on the moorside beyond!
There’re also lots of rocks & erratics with a few possible cairny-type bits by the woods.
As with most pics of the longstone, the boundary-marker ‘grafitti’ is extremely evident....
The view from the path – you just can’t miss it if you stick to the path.... We didn’t & took AGES to find it!!!
Ooops – bit of flare, but as there are so few photos of it around I figured it was worth putting up
Remnants of Treaclechops’s curved passage in foreground
