Learable Hill

Park on the A897 and cross the river by the footbridge. Difficult to see much here because of the vegetation (even during an Easter visit).

Coille na Borgie

Remains of two (possibly three) chambered cairns. The S structure is the best preserved. The N structure may be two cairns back to back. Next to single track road but parking straightforward.

Ord North

There is a visitor centre (Ferrycroft Countryside Centre) in Lairg with parking, etc and a trail to the cairn.

26m x 22m oval cairn covering a passage and chamber (neither accessible). The chamber probably reached a height of about 4m.

Ord South

For access, see Ord North.

The round cairn has now largely disappeared but would have been about 15m diameter. The low stones of the chamber and passage remain visible.

Calf of Eday NW

The local boatman – ask at the (only) shop – will take you over from Eday to the Calf where there are three chambered tombs in reasonable condition.

See also Calf of Eday Long and Calf of Eday SE.

This site has 7m diameter cairn covering passage and four-part chamber (both accessible).

Eday Manse

Maes Howe type chambered tomb. No obvious remnants of cairn or chambers currently visible. Stone decorated with spirals and concentric circles found here.
