The Rock Art Component
The Rock Art and a -now lost- ‘moon-marking’ stump, excavated in 1973 by Gerald S. Hawkins
Another attempt by Mr Edwards to ‘proof’ the ladder motifs are forged in the online Telegraph & Argus. The article is by Kathie Griffiths:

The message is just the same as in 2004 as posted by Rhiannon.
The ‘new’ collection added in October 2006 after another survey of the site by Wolfnighthunter.
Just received the following from Dr Margarita Díaz-Andreu, Senior Lecturer, Department of Archaeology, Durham University:
Just to let you know about the publication of this article
Díaz-Andreu, M., C. Brooke, M. Rainsbury & N. Rosser (2006) ‘The Spiral
that Vanished: The Application of Non-Contact Recording Techniques to an
Elusive Rock Art Motif at Castlerigg Stone Circle in Cumbria’, Journal
of Archaeological Science 33: 1580-7.

[With regard to the variations in spelling, ‘Finchairn’ is given on the OS map to the farm next to the cairn (RCAHMS also gives Finiechem and Finiechairn as alternatives). The spelling ‘Fincharn’ is given to the nearby river/stream and ruined castle; RCAHMS uses this version for the large number of cup-marked rocks in the vicinity. – TMA Ed.]

Here’s a photo of the stones by Maarten van Hoek, probably taken in the 1980-90s.
