Gled Law 3. View over the decorated outcrop to the South.
Gled Law 3 . A nice panel of rock art with great views to the Cheviots, easy to reach along a public footpath.
Gled Law 2 . The right cup-and-ring motif shows nine concentric rings and this is thought to be the lagest number of rings in Great-Britain.
The not so well known Kilmichael Glassery-2 site, NW of the main, under a tree at the end of a garden fence. The carving is covered by a undecorated slab as some sort of a protection.
The Torbhlaren standing stone in the late afternoon sunlight. The cup decorations are clearly visible. May 2002.
A rock art panel on the Southern whale-back like outcrop. May 2002.
A possible spiral and some cup marks on the N-side of the Northern whale-back like outcrop. May 2002.
Old Bewick; stone 3 with unusual flower decorations like a sleeping monster in the late afternoon sunlight. Prehistory alive!
Old Bewick; surface of stone 2.
Old Bewick; detail of combined cup-and-ring motifs on the main boulder. This is one of my most favourite designs. It looks like the right one bears the left which seems to protect the right cup-and-ring motif. Is this a symbol of love? A comfort for the soul?
An international groups website about prehistoric open-air abstract rock art in the UK. The link “Rock Art in the British Isles”, posted by ‘fitzcoraldo’ (thanks!) on 25th August 2002, refers to the same website but the link is dead. So why not try this fresh one about these mysterious ‘images of a lost message’? We hope to see you soon! And.....room enough for new members in 2003.
This image of the carvings was made in August 1993. The carvings are much fainter now.
Achnabreck; upper panel in the late afternoon sun. May 2002.
Achnabreck; cup-and-ring motifs with ‘runner’ cups. May 2002.
Achnabreck; horned motif in low sunlight. May 2002.
Main panel at Achnabreck in the low afternoon sun, May 2002
Ballygowan, August 1998, a very rough motif besides one which seems to be incised with a sharp tool.
