Looking down upon the Caban-coch Reservoir leading the eye to the Dolymynach dam.... Drygarn Fawr rises top left skyline.
There are so many unmarked cairns upon the hills of Elenydd that one might be tempted to think the OS decided it would be much more fun for people to find them for themselves....
For me arguably the most pleasing cairn... Waun Sarn – with its own unrecorded cairn – lies beyond.
Approaching Gro Hill from Esgair Gwar-y-Cae to approx south-west....
Looking across the course of the Afon Elan... plenty more cairns across the valley.
Hanging out with the wild horses....... Perfect.
Not depicted upon the map.... guess that’s why it’s intact. Sublime vibe.
The – frankly excellent – cairn can be seen upper left of image from Craig y Lluest, itself bearing a diminutive cairn cemetery.
Across the bwlch to Esgair Elan... incidentally a fine walk.
Looking toward the Gors Lwyd marsh...
I’ve spent the night below on many occasions.... yet had no inkling this little cairn cemetery was here overlooking arguably one of Mid Wales’ finest landscape views into upper Cwm Ystwyth. Just goes to show... thanks Coflein.
Now whether that is the displaced capstone is perhaps a moot point.
Not shown on the latest OS mapping, this exquisitely isolated site is well worth a visit as part of a wander around the enigmatic ‘Teifi Pools’ – or combined with a short ascent of Llethr Brith.
Entrance to north-east(ish). The cairn upon the neighbouring hill appeared (to me) clearance in nature.
