Needless to say, I love this set of photos Gladman; the sky/cloudscapes out there are what draws me back, though will wait for a quiet day to have my 'lammas-wander-about'.
Gladman,
Like TJJ, I think the fortunate thing about a lot of the prehistoric sites of Wiltshire is that they lie amongst the downs, which help create these cloudscapes. I find clouds can create a sense of great atmosphere to a place.
Your photos of Yarnbury and your other recent photos have a similar feel. I've mentioned the sky a lot in my own Wiltshire image posts. It's got to be a day when the cloud galleons are riding across the sea of blue sky, creating a patchwork of sun across the landscape.
Regrds,
TE.
As you'd guess, I agree. Clouds bring life to the Earth - occasionally death as well, I suppose - and life to any attempt to capture a 'feeling' on film. Hark at me... 'film'... still struggling with this digital lark, I'm afraid. The dullness of images without a proper sky tells its own story, I guess.
All your lovely photos of the barrow brought back memories of walking up a couple of years ago in August, the wheat had been cut that time and the village and Silbury nestled so neatly in the landscape. I see the dead thorn is still there, so stark and bleak in winter when the wind cuts across the downs.
EKLB is magnificent, even under its cover of trees....
