Easy to find, relocated rock art. A 3-ton carved boulder found a few miles away at Birney Hill, Ponteland, in 2015.
The stone now rests on display, outdoors next to the Great North Museum (previously The Hancock Museum) on Claremont Road.

I knew nothing about this as I was out of the area in the year it was found. I do however know Birny Hill where it was found , prolly during the laying of a huge water main which was bisecting the countryside at that time. Birny Hill is the tallest in that area and has a commanding view in 360’. There is a covered water reservoir on the top which makes it higher still ( no public assess but the fence is not the best round the back of you take my meaning.) Hares used to use it as a boxing place, before the water workings but are prolly back by now. It is inconceivable that the romans didn’t have a watchtower or fortlet ( do you want to hear my semiphore system ideas) on this hill, and you will often find public works/buildings on these sites ( Condercum Fort- reservoir and job centre. Byker Fort- Police Station, I could go on). This high ridge has been “ busy” since time immemorial and I would suspect a much earlier site lost by farming, industry, later reuse. The finding of this stone confirms that. I’ll check this stone out in next few days as I’m local.
