Caen Burn, Strath of Kildonan (Long Cairn) by GLADMAN Caen Burn North Long Cairn [ND01251802] - not in the same league as its neighbour to the south.... but the situation overlooking the Caen Burn is, in my opinion, excellent.

Great set of photos Gladman.

I followed the Caen Burn off Cnoc na Maoile some years back and remember stopping by this cairn for a moment, not really knowing what I was looking at, just that it looked very interesting. Looking at this photo now makes me realise how much the way I walk has changed over recent years. Mainly due to TMA, I seem to see more in one mile now than I used to do in ten. I love this website for that.

Thanks for giving me the chance to see what I missed at this site. I need to go back :)

How long ago was this? Wondering if the lower slopes were wooded? GLADMAN Posted by GLADMAN

No trees when I was there and looking at a few old OS maps (1950s & 1870s) they don't show any trees on the slopes round Caen Burn. thelonious Posted by thelonious

Wonder where that moss came from on the wonderful southern monument, then? Very odd. GLADMAN Posted by GLADMAN

Looks like quite a bit of heather burn round the cairn sometime between 2009 and 2011 when you scroll through the timeline.
