Maiden Bower

Hillfort

Maiden Bower (Hillfort) by GLADMAN Amazing what the modern antiquarian finds nowadays? Not really, not just outside Dunstable..... The treeline echoes the mighty bank, thankfully protected by its hawthorns.

Just awful. Was it on the monument itself? If so it should be reported to the police. Dial 101 and ask to be transferred to the police force that covers maiden bower. juamei Posted by juamei

Maiden Bower is not exactly out of the way.... there were untold locals walking dogs when I was there, so the assumption has to be that no one local gives a damn one way or another.... including the Police. GLADMAN Posted by GLADMAN

By a weird coincidence I was talking to Mark Harrison, English Heritage's crime advisor (Police inspector seconded to EH who organises ARCH) 2 days ago and I said something very similar to him. He was very clear to me that the police always want to know when a crime has been committed and a massive problem at present is under reporting of so called low level crime to protected sites.

I'll be putting together some basic advice for reporting this type of crimes at scheduled monuments over the next week, but in summary dial 999 if its happening, 101 if the crime has happened and crimestoppers if you want to be anonymous and you know who did it. If you do report it and get no joy, let me know and I'll put you in touch with Mark directly.
