| The explanation related in 'Reader's Digest "Folklore Myths and Legends of Britain"' has the effect of craftily Christianising the monolith's arrival. Legend has it that the stone simply fell from the sky "killing certain desecrators of the churchyard". Act of God rather than the Devil. Makes a change. |
