Wyke Down Henges, Dorset

I visited this site on Sunday after spending the main part of the day at Knowlton Henge and Church. Most of the day was bright and breezy with a couple of very quick but very cold winter storms during the morning.

With the Knowlton site very quiet people wise I was able to spend quite a bit of time tracing the energy paths and spirals that are so powerful at this site. More of Knowlton in another posting.

After leaving Knowlton I drove up to the A354 and parked in the little village of Pimperne. I then walked along a small section of the Dorset Cursus and joined the Ackling Dyke Roman Road that heads down towards Moor Crichel. This is a fantastic walk as the view from the Dyke is littered with barrows and other earthworks. I left the Dyke and followed the sheep tracks through the chalk grassland to visit the Wyke Down Henges. This is the first time I had seen them in real life and although the excavation area around the henges leaves a bit to be desired I was pleased to see that the henges were in quite good condition.

I took my dowsing rods out of their seperate covers and decided to walk acroos each henge from its entrance until the bank was reached and then from the outside of the henge to the bank level with the henge opening.

The first henge that I dowsed appeared to have no energy at all, the rods remaining still and far apart. I then left this henge and walked the few yards to the one nearest the Dyke. I entered the henge through the entrance and walked slowly towards the far bank. As I reached the middle of this henge the rods suddenly leapt into life and moved together with a very violent motion. Another couple of steps and the rods mved far apart and reamined still again. Itried several times to get the rods to repeat their movement but each time I crossed the inside of the henge nothing happened.

There appeared to be no energy outside the henge or across any other part of the site. For those of you familiar with the site it is small and compact with other archaeological finds coming to light during excavations, such as the Wyke Down ROundhouse just a few feet away from the henge.

Has anybody else had an experience like this at Wyke Down?

I do wonder if there was still energy within me or the rods from dowsing at Knowlton that may have caused such a violent reaction in the rods I was using. I aim to return in a few weeks and dowse the Wyke Down Henges without dowsing anywhere else first.
