The Ambient Rambler's Book of Journey - Introduction

Here's my own attempt at a web log of my travels to ancient places over recent years. Much of what is written here is done so months or years after the event, so details and chronological order will probably be a little hazy.... but if my guess is right, you'll probably care as little about that as I do! Even if accuracy suffers, it's the ambience of the journey that matters.

Ambient Rambling isn't about necessarily reaching the top of a mountain, or even reaching your intended destination. It's about the journey. About being in the landscape and experiencing it as you go by. I've climbed hills with people who are so obsessed about reaching the summit, that all they see is the path beneath their feet. Ambient Rambling is the very opposite of this. You may only get halfway up the hill, but that isn't important. It's being on the hill in the first place that is the important part.

Excursions to ancient places are the perfect settings for an Ambient Ramble, most of them being found in beautiful places. Take time to experience the place. Don't go there to tick it off your list, or to find an answer - just go there to be.
