Dun Borrafiach lies two kilometres north of Trumpan Church on the Waternish peninsula, and is accessed along a mainly excellent hard track, though there were a couple of rather boggy sections when I visited. Vehicles must be left at the car-park beside the churchyard, adding a 250 metre tramp uphill on tarmac to the journey.
Borrafiach is no mean broch, and much remains to be seen, a considerable stretch of walling rising seven courses in height. The broch itself lies some 300 metres to the east of the path across heathery slopes. A ground-galleried broch, sections of passageway are still in evidence despite all the rubble lying around. The upper part of the entrance passage remains clear though its lower section is overcome by rubble. Two dykes abut the broch, much of which was pillaged in their construction, and also of the numerous enclosures in the neighbourhood.
