I know there's much to be said for sweeping views from cairns.... but I do wonder just how many were originally erected within woodland clearings? So this would've been the intended vibe. Midges aside, in my opinion there are few better environments to drift away for a while.
The ones hidden in woods have a little added sense of adventure. There's a change to the feel, light and even sound quite often as you enter a clearing. I like that.
